Subject: JSW64: Andrew's third beta-test of the game itself
Yesterday I playtested Variant V of JSW64 itself (jsw64v.tap) - the
8th January 2005 revision currently in the Files section
("John Elliott" folder). I will playtest jsw64{w,y,z,yy}.tap on
later dates, along with JSW64:Dragon32 and another look at JSW64:MM.
There is a problem with the ending condition, in that the swordfish-
routine on completing "The Final Barrier" flags all the items in the
game as uncollected and resets the runtime item-counter at 34270.
This means that the game is only Maria-completable if you collect
the items in "The Final Barrier" last (in which case the game-engine
removes Maria before spitting all the items back out). Otherwise,
you have to collect them all again, finishing with the ones in "The
Final Barrier".
Obviously this regurgitation of items is appropriate for JSW64:MM
but not for JSW64 itself.
I still don't like the way you can superjump up from the Bathroom
variants and get trapped in "Emergency Generator", nor am I keen on
the placement of crumbling floor in "The Bathroom" which leads to
infinite death in "The Chapel".
