Sorry, I can't help you (never played the BBC version), but you could
try e-mailing the bloke who compiled the list of BBC rooms at:
http://cl4.org/comp/jsw2bbc/
He doesn't mention any crashing, so presumably he either has a working
versionof the game, or he's using a more reliable emulator that you are
(again, I can't help, as I've never used a BBC emulator, sorry).
