I would humbly argue you didn't try my Windows remake. Give it a try at http://www.xmixdrix.com/manicminer and tell me what you think...

Well there's Microsoft's Java Machine and MicroSun's Java.. In my
experience, MicroSun's product is inferior... I tried accessing web-based
server access that uses Java, playing Literati and other Yahoo online games
and various other Java-based sites and found that MicroSun's Java is
painfully slow, doesn't work on every Java site and makes the text in some
cases too small to read. Deleting it and installing Microsoft's own Java
Machine cured all of these problems. Nevertheless, nothing beats playing MM
on an emulator!

What OS are you using? If I remember right, WinXP comes with JRE
pre-installed. A assume you just need the Java runtime, and not the Java
development (JDK). BTW, I use Java a lot, and it's great.

To save having to install Java on my laptop, is it possible to
download the .tap (or other format) of the Spectrum verion of the BBC
games?

Not from me. Java is the wave of the future, man :-)
