I take it you mean Sun Microsystems.

Deleting it and installing Microsoft's own Java
Machine cured all of these problems.

Do note, though, that the Microsoft JVM only supports Java 1.1, and
Sun is up to 1.5 by now. Fortunately I'm still compiling with 1.1, so
you may be able to get anything I write to work with the Microsoft
JVM. I don't think the Microsoft JVM can run .jar files directly,
though, so you may need to fiddle around with install.bat.
