That reminds me of when I suggested password-encryption of the rooms
in JSWED a very long time ago. I also suggested it to the creator of
Lunar Magic, the Super Mario World editor and he included it, but a
few years later one guy got the hump with it and went off on some
crusade about how evil it was and how one should "hack and hack alike"
(meaning that if you are hacking you should not prevent others from
hacking your work). Most people were disappointed because it took the
magic out of the most polished mods of SMW.

It's certainly an interesting field of thought with many ambiguities
but I do like the idea of being able to lock a creation with some
minor protection (which could perhaps easily be bypassed if you knew
what you were doing), mainly because it gives an increased sense of
power to the author and makes secrets feel 'different' and, well, more
secret... but it does stifle creativity - it's fun to look inside
other people's games to see how they work if need be, and I probably
learned a lot from opening up other people's games.
