Subject: "Manic Mining Robot's Day Out"

"Manic Mining Robot's Day Out" is "a secret bonus crap game" attached
to Vidar Erixen (Erix1)'s game "Maria vs. Some Bastards". It can be
run by pressing "0" (zero) on the startup screen of the latter game.

This information is not "secret" any more. It was revealed by Erix1
himself back in messages # 3454 and # 3457, and it can also be found
at http://equ.in/ox/spectrum/eggs/.

According to Erix1's own words (expressed back in message # 3454) the
game is "just compilation of screens and graphics" Erix1 "had to edit
out of Maria vs some bastards. [because of their crappiness...])".

However, "Manic Mining Robot's Day Out", apart from the fact that it
is an extra block of code at the end of "Maria vs. Some Bastards", is
a JSW game in its own right, IMHO. It is completable, it can be
completed without losing a single life, it has around 30 edited rooms
and some very interesting game-engine features (typical of Erix1
mode), such as switches, crumbling floors and guardians you can walk
on using them as lifts. You can also load it into JSWED after saving
it as a snapshot after you run it from "Maria vs. Some Bastards". And
the graphics are not as crappy as Erix1 says, even though compared
with the superb "Maria vs. Some Bastards" they are quite... well...
basic.

To Andrew Broad:

In view of the above, I think that it would be proper to give "Manic
Mining Robot's Day Out" a separate mention on your list of games. I
wouldn't go as far as to suggest it should have a separate entry, but
surely a proper mention in "48K JSW Tidbits" would be justified?
AFAICT, at the moment its existence is only mentioned indirectly, as
a source of inspiration for Drunken Master's "You Robot!" project.

Daniel

P.S. Thanks for the tip about "Willy Takes a Trip", Andrew. What
about "Willy the Hacker"?
