Subject: Dr. Broad will never believe this
Not only had it been over two months since anyone posted here, I
haven't posted here since 28th May! :-o
In that time, I've had the 'worst' of my tennis-distractions this
year (French Open, Birmingham, Eastbourne, Wimbledon all in a
contiguous block, and then the Olympic Tennis Event last week).
In July, I decided I would set a score for every cavern from 1 to 31
of Flash Manic Miner <http://www.darnkitty.com/manic/> on the
corresponding day of the month, in a monotonically increasing
sequence (every cavern having a higher score than the previous
cavern).
I succeeded in this (my scores will stay on the website till the end
of August), and it made me a much better and more confident Flash MM
player, but it took a heavy toll on my life, and I have vowed not to
play it between two consecutive working-days again!
I then played Flash MM one more time to get past Cavern 31 for the
first time in my life, and since Caverns 32 to 42 are the same as 12
to 22 (except for extra items in Cavern 34, which ruins my predefined
route and requires me to use the pause-key heavily at this stage), I
managed to get to Cavern 43 ("Killer Birds") for the first time too.
That gave me the Gold Medal for Flash MM from 3rd to 19th August, but
jetsetdanny reclaimed it before I could boast about it here. What
matters to me is that I was holding it when the Olympic tennis-medals
were decided. It's a shame Flash MM isn't an Olympic Game! ;-)
I haven't forgotten that I'm supposed to complete JSW64: Flash MM
this year, but with all the tennis-distractions and a full-time job,
I haven't had that big block of free time to implement the patches
required to make Cavern 29 work to my satisfaction.
I have 45 non-working days left in 2008, and I reckon it will take me
about 30 of them to clear my backlog of tennis-reports and biography-
updates. Another high priority will be v1.1 of JSW64MM: James Bond,
which will not only add "Quantum of Solace", but the room-
documentation, easy variant, and tunes that I didn't have time to do
for v1.0 last year.
The upside if I succeed in clearing my backlog of tennis-reports
before the end of the year is that I'd have much more time for MM/JSW
in the first half of 2009 than I did in the first half of 2008.
Time to play the games that were gamma-released in the last 8 years.
Time to resume work on Advanced MM/JSW Trainer.
But the thought that occurred to me on 29th April, based on an event
whose outcome I expected to discover in early 2009 - I now know that
I'll have to wait until at least the second half of 2009 to discover
it...
