Subject: Comments on Daniel's RZXs of Ma jolie
The following comments refer to the RZX-recordings of Ma jolie: Rooms
0 to 6 from "Daniel Gromann/my_jolly_bug.zip/special_edition.rzx"
[Special Edition 2006], and Rooms 7 to 19 from the version currently
at http://www.rzxarchive.co.uk/m.php [which is labelled "SE", but is
actually based on the original edition from 2003].
[4] "The Hive of No Desire": Your solution is quite unorthodox, as you
take the bottom item first, go straight up to the top, and finish with
a high dive into the portal. Whereas my solution is to leave the
bottom item until last (because the big bee is a Eugene), and work my
way down after collecting the higher items. I think both solutions are
acceptable; I'm not inclined to edit the room to eliminate yours.
[8] "The Dawn of Bacon-Sharing": You jump up for the leftmost item
from below, whereas I always jump up onto the row of Crumbly cells to
take it. I tried protecting it by putting a Crumbly cell at the item's
coordinates, but the Cell-Graphics Bug caused the HG to collide with
it; the room is hard enough as it is anyway, and your solution doesn't
reduce the challenge much. Also, when relieving the middle item of
Crumbly, it is not necessary to wait there for a whole cycle of the
HG's path.
[9] "GimmeGimmeGimmeAManAfterMidnight": While playtesting this room, I
wish I'd designed it so you had to get rid of a Crumbly Earth-cell in
the middle row to be able to cross the bottom, but that you still
needed it to cross the middle row on the second pass - unless you got
rid of a Crumbly Earth-cell in the top row earlier. Oh well - maybe in
a future MM48 game... (JSW64 doesn't allow Crumbly Earth-cells, and in
any case, I want to do at least one more MM48 game for the sake of
POKE 37499,201, which turns all Fire-2 cells into Trap-cells).
[15] "Speed 4": Wow - I love the way you relieve the items of Crumbly,
then leave it to the white HG to collect them!! So much so that I have
enforced your solution by putting Fire-cells under the items!
[16] "slime surfers & jissom monkeys": You cross the middle platform
from left to the right by jumping over the magenta HG at the second
opportunity when the first will do, and instead of crossing the middle
platform from right to left after liberating the ILB of Crumbly, you
jump up to the top platform!
[18] "Semi-Perilous Light": Aww - you didn't jump up against the
Earth-cell above the red VG! I love this manoeuvre, and luckily there
is one possible way to enforce it: a well-placed Earth-cell to
eliminate the jump with which you bypassed it.
[19] "Heathen (The Rays)": It's interesting that you leave the item to
the left of the 'Ignacio Pérez Gil' Crumbly cell until the end, as
this forces you to make a very awkward jump over the yellow HG, which
can be avoided by taking that item at the first opportunity. But I
can't see a way to enforce your solution, and I don't really want to,
because it's interesting to see both solutions.
Since I uploaded the first release-candidate, I have added the
Fire-cells to "Speed 4" [15] and the Earth-cell to "Semi-Perilous
Light" [18], and edited the Conveyor-graphic of "The Vatican" [6].
