Thank you for your reply, Andrew.
I think I now understand the precise mechanism of how the rope works (or, crucially, how it doesn't!)
But something is still puzzling me: if there is no Patch Vector in GoldenEye, then how did you achieve the disappearing block and the lengthening of the rope, which occurs at the point when all the items have been collected?
(Unless you meant that there is no Main Loop Patch Vector, but that those things are implemented via a Portal Patch Vector?)
