Further to my previous messages in this thread...
In a forthcoming project that I'm working on, I've been playing around with Patch Vectors that toggle the current room's Conveyor Direction Byte (Offset #D6 in the room buffer), via an XOR 01 command. That has the effect of switching the direction of standard conveyors - both the animation and the conveying action (the effect on Willy's movement) are reversed.
However, when applied to Off or Sticky conveyors, the 'mechanical' effect is to toggle between those two conveyor types, but the animation of the conveyor's top pixel-row is always rightwards (whilst the third pixel-row is always rotated to the left for Off and Sticky) - notwithstanding the appearance of the conveyors in JSWED (which shows Off conveyors animating leftwards and Sticky animating rightwards).
