It might be possible to integrate these
quirks as intended features of a modern remake. For
example, ILBs could become hidden pits, sections of wall
could be illusionary or have one way doors, sticky
conveyors could become mud or quicksand, robots that
collect items by remote control, super-jump power-ups,
etc.
What you would lose would be the ability to hide/blend
these features in/into the original game
screens.
