Subject: Chronology - Questions to John about JSW64 release dates

Thank you, John, for your help so far. Now on to JSW64. Here's what I have and what I am still missing:

15 April 2004

JSW64 Hacklevel 1 is beta-released by John Elliott.

17 April 2004

JSW64 Hacklevel 7 is beta-released by John Elliott.

21 April 2004

JSW64 Hacklevel 8 is beta-released by John Elliott.

3 May

JSW64: Manic Miner is beta-released by John Elliott.

4 May 2004

JSW64 Hacklevel 9 is beta-released by John Elliott.

22 August

The first "release candidate" of JSW64: Manic Miner is beta-released by John Elliott.

26 September

The second "release candidate" of JSW64: Manic Miner is beta-released by John Elliott.

29 December 2004

"Release Candidate 1" of JSW64 is beta-released by John Elliott.

8 January 2005

"Release Candidate 2" of JSW64 is beta-released by John Elliott.

8 February 2005

"Release Candidate 3" of JSW64 is beta-released by John Elliott.

25 February 2005

JSW64 and JSW64: Manic Miner are declared to be gamma-released by John Elliott.

28 February 2005

JSW64 v. 0.01 Hacklevel 11 is gamma-(???)released by John Elliott.

30 April 2005

JSW64 and JSW64: Manic Miner are gamma-released as installers.

9 July 2005

A bug-fixed revision of JSW64 and JSW64: Manic Miner installer program is released by John Elliott, introducing Hacklevel 11a.

28 January 2006

JSWED 2.2.9 is released by John Elliott, introducing Hacklevel 12 of the JSW64 game engine.

Questions:

1. There weren't any Hacklevel releases between Hacklevel 1 and Hacklevel 7, were there?

2. When was Hacklevel 10 introduced?

3. When was Hacklevel 11 introduced?

4. Is the above information regarding the introduction of Hacklevel 11a and Hacklevel 12 correct?

5. From the posts in this Group I can see that there were updates of the beta releases of JSW64 on:

   24 April 2004

   28 April 2004

   5 June 2004

Should they be described in any other way than "An updated revision of JSW64 Hacklevel {8 or 9, respectively} is beta-released by John Elliott"?

Or perhaps called "bug-fixed revisions" rather than "updated revisions"? Or something else still?

Or perhaps the references to these changes should be scrapped altogether so as not to muddle the picture too much?

6. What is the "official" gamma-release date of JSW64 and JSW64: Manic Miner as far as you are concerned, John?

Would that be 25 February 2005, when you declared in this Group (message 4696), in response to Andrew's query:

"> So when can we expect the gamma-releases of JSW64, JSW64:MM and

> JSW64:Dragon32?

I have now uploaded the final version of JSW64. This is identical to

the previous release candidate except Variant [, which has the Clock

Tower fixed.

You also seem to have completed JSW64:MM without problems - if so,

I'll declare that release candidate 2a of that is final as well."

or some other date perhaps?

The ReadMe file included with the installer package of JSW64 currently hosted on your website, John, says: "JSW64 v0.01HL11 and JSW64: Manic Miner                John Elliott, 28 Feb 2005".

If the gamma-release date for JSW64 and JSW64: Manic Miner were 25 February 2005, then what would the significance of 28 February 2005 be?

Or should perhaps the gamma-release date be indicated as 28 February 2005 after all and your declaration in response to Andrew should be ignored (again, not to muddle the picture too much)?

7. Your JSW64 web page has the date 18-4-2005 at the bottom (plus the 9 July 2005 update on top). I have no entry for 18 April 2005 in the Chronology. Should there be an entry? (if so, what should it concern?)

8. When did Version 0.01 appear for the first time?

9. Any other comments, additions or corrections?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Daniel
